Govt closely monitoring Ebola situation, no confirmed case in India: Health Ministry

The outbreak of the Ebola virus in African nations and its evolution are being closely monitored, sources in the Union Health Ministry said. However, they denied any confirmed case in India.This comes after reports emerged that a passenger with a travel history to Uganda reported Ebola-like symptoms in Bengaluru.“Exercising abundant caution, one individual with recent travel history from Uganda, who reported mild symptoms of body ache, was placed under isolation at the State-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Bengaluru for observation and further evaluation,” a highly placed source said.The individual remained otherwise healthy apart from mild body ache.A sample was collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology for laboratory testing.“The test result has returned negative for Ebola Virus Disease. No case of Ebola Virus Disease has been confirmed in India. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in coordination with the concerned State authorities, is maintaining close surveillance and all necessary public health protocols are being followed in accordance with WHO guidelines,” officials from the Ministry said.The screening and surveillance measures continuing at all designated points of entry and across the public health system, they said.
