The West Bengal Government has handed over 142.79 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for setting up border outposts and barbed-wire fencing infrastructure along the India-Bangladesh border.The move follows a decision taken at the BJP government’s first Cabinet meeting on May 11 to hand over 600 acres within 45 days for border infrastructure projects.Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in a post on X gave this information. “Govt of WB has initiated intensified measures to strengthen Border Security by facilitating construction of BSF Outposts & Barbed-Wire Fencing, further enhancing security in the Border areas. Additional land has now been handed over to BSF, taking the total tally to 142.79 acres,” Adikari said.He further said that in accordance with the decision taken during the first Cabinet meeting of the state government, this initiative has emerged as a significant milestone in progressing towards the target of handing over 600 acres of land within 45 days.The Chief Minister also shared district-wise details of land handed over to the BSF across nine districts of the state. The districts are Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia and North 24 Parganas.According to the information provided by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the land transferred includes 22.95 acres in Cooch Behar, 35.165 acres in Jalpaiguri, 8.815 acres in Darjeeling, 2.84 acres in Uttar Dinajpur, 20.1701 acres in Dakshin Dinajpur, 10.90 acres in Malda, 38.805 acres in Murshidabad, 0.55 acres in Nadia and 2.6 acres in North 24 Parganas.
