OP Rana, Reader to the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab Vigilance Bureau, surrendered before a Chandigarh CBI court on Monday.Rana is an accused in an FIR registered by the CBI in a Rs 13-lakh bribery case involving officials posted in the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.The CBI arrested three accused — Raghav Goyal, Vikas alias Vicky Goyal and Ankit Wadhwa — in the case on May 11. The case was registered by the CBI on a complaint filed by a State Tax Officer from Malout.The CBI claimed that a disproportionate assets (DA) case against the complainant, Amit Kumar, was pending with Punjab Vigilance. According to the agency, accused Vikas Goyal and Raghav Goyal facilitated a meeting between the complainant and Rana in his office on April 29, 2026, during which Rana allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh for “Sahab” and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold-7 mobile handset for himself.The negotiations were carried out in Chandigarh.The CBI claimed that both accused were acting as intermediaries for senior Vigilance officials, including the Reader to the DGP, Vigilance, Punjab, and were using their influence to assure the complainant that his matter could be settled.According to the CBI, Rana assured the complainant that the complaint against him would be closed once the bribe amount was paid. The agency further claimed that during the trap operation, while the other accused were arrested with Rs 13 lakh in cash and the mobile phone, Rana managed to escape from the spot.Rana surrendered before the court after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the CBI court. He also failed to get any relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.In the surrender application filed through advocate Sumesh Jain, Rana claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case. He stated that he never demanded any bribe from anyone and alleged that the entire case was a one-sided story fabricated by the CBI.He also claimed that he was in no position to decide any case registered by the Vigilance Bureau.
