Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains on Tuesday said his government would teach about artificial intelligence (AI) education in schools from Class 6 onwards to prepare students for future.After honouring Class 12 toppers, who secured more than 85 per cent marks, under the Bright Minds of Punjab initiative at Vikas Bhawan here, Bans said when the Bhagwant Mann government assumed office in 2022, its focus was on providing quality education and healthcare.He said Punjab’s achievement of securing the top rank in school education, as recently declared by the NITI Aayog, had proven that the government had been sincere in meeting its commitment. He added that Punjab had even surpassed states such as Kerala in school education indicators.The minister said teachers were sent Singapore and Finland for advanced training programmes to improve the quality of education in schools.Highlighting achievements of government school students, he said around 1,000 students from government schools had qualified prestigious competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET in the past four years.He said Punjab was committed to prepare students for jobs in the AI era by introducing an AI curriculum in schools, ensuring that they remained relevant and competitive in the changing world.Former Delhi Deputy CM and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia interacted with students and stressed the importance of using AI platforms for academic learning, career planning and understanding emerging job opportunities.Expressing concern over alleged NEET examination irregularities, he said aspirations of lakhs of students should not be jeopardised and that those responsible for any wrongdoing must be held accountable.He stressed the need to reform traditional examination systems.
