Once best of friends, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu are now daggers drawn.Mann, during an interaction with media persons today, said that Bittu is not only losing his ministry, but also his Rajya Sabha seat shortly. “They (referring to the BJP top brass) have asked him to prove his political mettle by contesting and winning the Vidhan Sabha election. That is why he is saying “bahut ho gaya Rajya Sabha aur Lok Sabha,” he said.Mann and Bittu, who became friends much before Aam Aadmi Party stormed to power in 2022 and Mann became Chief Minister, remained close friends till recently. If insiders are to be believed, the duo would talk to each other often, exchanging not just political notes, but their private issues as well. However now, as both AAP and BJP get into the election mode, their personal friendship seems to have been sacrificed at the altar of their individual politics. Their differences emerged on the day of urban civic body polls last month, when Bittu stormed into Mann’s citadel of Dhuri and Sangrur to support BJP leader Prof Onkar Singh, who had been arrested by Sangrur police for illegally remaining in the poll-bound Sangrur, even though he was not a voter there.Onkar, once one of the closest aides of Mann, was appointed his OSD after Mann assumed charge as the CM. He was later removed unceremoniously. As time went by, he moved to BJP and has remained politically active in Dhuri, which is Mann’s constituency. Bittu supporting Onkar on Mann’s home turf has not gone down well with the CM, leading to bitterness between the once good friends.
