Dr Archana Gupta, the newly appointed state president of BJP, formally assumed charge of her office on Wednesday during a swearing-in ceremony held at ‘Panchkamal’— BJP’s state headquarters located in Panchkula.Present at the event were Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, national vice-president Soudan Singh, national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar, state in-charge Dr Satish Poonia, co-state in-charge Surendra Nagar, and organising secretary Phanindranath Sharma.Additionally, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, MPs Subhash Barala, Sanjay Bhatia, Kartikeya Sharma, and Rekha Sharma — along with various ministers, MLAs, party office-bearers, and workers—extended their congratulations.Known for his characteristic candour, Rao Inderjit Singh said, “Archana ji, you have inherited a ‘paki pakayi kheti’ (ready-to-harvest crop). You won’t have to toil too hard; however, it is absolutely essential that you accord due respect to the party workers and leaders. If everyone continues to receive the respect they deserve, there is no reason why BJP should not return to power for a fourth consecutive term.”Offering a word of caution, Dhankar remarked: “When an individual ascends to a high office, their mindset often tends to become narrow.” He advised Archana Gupta: “Replace your sense of ‘I’ (the ego) with Nayab Singh Saini’s sense of ‘We’ (inclusivity).” Sharing a personal experience, he recounted that during his tenure as the national president of Kisan Morcha, he would frequently receive grand receptions at various locations — including places where the people did not even know who he was. “Upon witnessing this, I would always remind myself that this respect is accorded not to the individual, but to the office they hold.”Poonia in his turn took plenty of light-hearted digs at everyone present — from the Chief Minister down to the Rajya Sabha MPs. The audience at the event roared with laughter at his remarks. He said, “I will not delve into any profound wisdom, for I have entrusted the entire ‘quota of knowledge’ to the Chief Minister. He typically arrives with five or six pages of material on behalf of the government.” This drew loud guffaws from the crowd. In response, Saini — seated on the dais — gestured playfully to indicate, “Not today; I haven’t brought them along.”Just then, Vij arrived at the ceremony, sporting his spectacles. Observing his arrival, Poonia quipped, “Now that is what I call a grand, ‘heavyweight’ entry!”Taking a playful dig at the three Rajya Sabha members seated on the dais — Sanjay Bhatia, Rekha Sharma, and Kartikeya Sharma — he remarked, “BJP has put an end to the unemployment of these three individuals remarkably quickly. There was a time when securing even a single Rajya Sabha seat for BJP was an incredibly arduous task.”Saini in his turn said that PM Modi, national president Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the top leadership have today placed BJP’s flag in the hands of Dr Archana Gupta.“Gupta will carry this flag forward, and all of us stand firmly behind her. The newly appointed state president will take all the party workers along with her to further strengthen the organisation.”Saini emphasised that the pledge taken by PM Modi to empower women must be carried forward. CM Saini recalled that on January 23, 2015, from the historic soil of Panipat, PM Modi had launched the clarion call of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”. He noted that the Modi government is now completing 12 years of service. “This slogan has played a pivotal role in saving the lives of millions of daughters,” he added.
