Officers were scrambled at around 4am on Saturday morning after shots were heard in the area.

When they arrived, they found a large crowd dispersing in the chaos.

Kansas City Police Department captain Jake Becchina confirmed to The Athletic that three adult females were initially taken to hospital with injuries following the incident.

It later emerged that a total of nine adults had been taken to various local hospitals.

All are understood to have suffered non-life threatening injuries.

No suspects are currently in custody, with police continuing patrols in the area as the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident has unfolded just days before England are due to arrive in the city for the tournament proper.

The squad are currently based in Palm Beach, Florida, as they continue their final World Cup preparations.

They secured a 1-0 win over New Zealand in their first warm-up match in Tampa on Saturday, as momentum builds ahead of the competition.

England will next face Costa Rica at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando on Wednesday, before flying to Kansas City on Saturday June 13.

Once in the city, they will remain there for the duration of the tournament.

Training will take place at Swope Soccer Village, the home of Sporting KC’s reserve and academy sides, located in the south-east of the city.

Other major international teams are also based in Kansas City, including Argentina national football team and Netherlands national football team.

Argentina will use Sporting Kansas City’s main training facility, while the Netherlands will train at the base used by the Kansas City Current of the National Women’s Soccer League.

An FA spokesperson declined to comment when contacted.
