MANY of us like to pose by the hotel pool – but £3,000 for a blow-up rubber ring?
That’s enough for a holiday in itself by most trippers’ reckoning.

But we kid you not, this is the price tag on the latest seaside designer insanity from French fashion house Louis Vuitton.
Featuring the brand’s prized monogram pattern usually reserved for luxury handbags, the pool float is a far cry from the £5 versions you can snap up at cheap- and-cheerful beachside kiosks.
And you certainly wouldn’t want excited teenagers playing too rough with it.
It’s far from the first time we have seen crazy money asked for a luxury-brand item when you could buy similar for just a few quid.
RED FLAG
The common relationship trend which is a red flag that it might not work out
KEEPING UP
All of the forgotten Kardashian businesses that FAILED
Here, we look at some of the daftest designer buys for people with more money than sense . . .
PAPER CLIP
Prada, £145
This over-sized paperclip by Prada is £145 Credit: Prada
HOW do you make an over-sized paperclip that is worth, to some people at least, £145?
Fashion it out of silver and stick a Prada logo on it, of course.
Marketed as a luxury money clip for stashing your cash, this fashion piece is, let’s be honest, just a bit of stationery.
Surely, too, anyone mad enough to fork out for it would have precious few notes left to fill it with.
ICE TRAY
Gucci, £35
Italian fashion house Gucci charges £35 for a pair of trays from their New York boutique Credit: Gucci
TIME to feel the G-farce, people.
We all like a glamorous cocktail, but do you really need an ice cube in the shape of the Gucci “G”?
Back in 2005, the Italian fashion house clearly thought some might reckon they did.
So they got busy knocking up a black rubber ice tray that froze water in the shape of their famous logo.
They charged £35 for a pair of trays from their New York boutique – and, well, it meant fashion victims could enjoy watching their hard-earned money melt away in a glass of gin.
SKATEBOARD
Hermes, £2,200
Made from beech wood and maple veneer, these Hermes skateboards cost an eye-watering £2,200 each Credit: Hermes
SKATEBOARD style usually comes cheap, but Hermes, known for its Birkin handbags, took things to a ridiculous new level in 2017 when they released a range of designer boards.
Made from beech wood and maple veneer, they cost an eye-watering £2,200 each.
It’s a massive kickflip to the wallet, especially since actually riding one and scuffing it would destroy the resale value.
Forget about half-pipes – the only thing these are good for is hanging on a wall.
JENGA
Louis Vuitton, £2,400
Louis Vuitton’s take on the popular game Jenga will set you back about £2,400 Credit: Louis Vuitton
YOUR hand may be a bit unsteady for this game, given the outlay.
Louis Vuitton’s take on the popular game, brought out in 2019, features 54 blocks crafted from colourful plexiglass and comes in a transparent box with a leather handle.
It will set you back about £2,400, so it’s safe to say you’ll want to keep your clumsy mates well away from it – unless you fancy watching your prized investment crash.
DUCT TAPE
Raf Simons, £200
Raf Simons saw a gap in the market and charges £200 a roll of duct tape Credit: Raf Simons
YOU would surely need to be out of your box to seal it with this stuff.
Then again, if you are moving to a house worth tens of millions, maybe packing up with a bit of style may be just the thing.
Whatever, luxury brand Raf Simons saw a gap in the market, to be taped up, in 2017 and gave us its version of a good, old-fashioned household staple for, er, £200 a roll.
Available in black or white and stamped with trendy slogans, it was, in fact, designed to be worn on the catwalk by models – as an avant-garde belt.
Ah, now it all makes sense.
BOOMERANG
Chanel, £1,130
Chanel spun out a boomerang for £1,130 in 2017, and surely reckoned some people would be game Credit: Chanel
WANT to chuck your money away?
This boomerang is just the thing.
French brand Chanel spun it out for £1,130 in 2017, and surely reckoned some people would be game.
Released as part of a luxury sportswear collection, this wood-and- resin version of the traditional Aussie tool has the brand’s double-C logo stamped on the front.
But at that price, you would certainly think twice about lobbing it across the park – in case it got stuck up a tree then pinched by a squirrel.
GARDENING TOOLS
Dior, £7,100
Dior’s gardening tools cost a whopping £7,100 and it features a matching spade and rake
WHAT sort of tool would fork out for this lot?
Surely they’d have lost the plot before even getting out there to dig it up.
But it you do wish to get down and dirty with a touch of bling – or at least watch one’s head gardener doing so – Dior has you covered.
They put out this kit in 2022 for an eye-watering £7,100 and it features a matching spade and rake, as well as a foldable frame with seat made of calf-skin leather so you can rest while you work.
Hmm. Best not get it too muddy.
BRICK
Supreme, £25
This Supreme brick retailed for £25 each and swiftly sold out, before later selling on eBay for a whole load more
IF you thought the housing market was tough, try building your home from a lorry-load of these.
For some reason known maybe only to them, the good people at New York streetwear brand Supreme baffled and amazed in 2016 when they began flogging standard clay bricks . . . stamped with the company’s logo.
They retailed for £25 each and swiftly sold out, before later selling on eBay for a whole load more.
KITE
Louis Vuitton, £8,000
This Louis Vuitton kite is covered in the coveted LV monogram and comes with a matching carry case and costs £8,000
YOU would need to be high as a kite to buy one of these, would you not?
Louis Vuitton launched this toy in 2021 for a dizzying £8,000.
While crafted from humble nylon – you might think it would be gold thread all the way – it is covered in the coveted LV monogram and comes with a matching carry case.
You wouldn’t want to ram it in the boot of the car with a load of holiday clobber and the dog.
Or, like with the posh boomerang on this page, get it tangled in a tree.
EMPTY TIN CAN
Tiffany & Co, £945
Made of sterling silver and gold vermeil, this £945 flight of fancy was dreamt up by jeweller Tiffany & Co in 2017 Credit: Tiffany
THIS is a spend for those who can.
Designed as a pencil holder, it might be one for king-of-bling Donald Trump in the Oval Office, though not for the kids on their Ikea desk, to organise their GCSE revision.
Made of sterling silver and gold vermeil, this £945 flight of fancy was dreamt up by jeweller Tiffany & Co in 2017.
It was part of a fashion line that also featured a £330 drinking straw.
Oh, and the can has, er, nowt in it.
