BOYS receive more pocket money than girls, according to a leading money app.

Girls receive £9.89 a week in pocket money while boys get £9.91 – 3p a week, or £1.56 more a year, according to GoHenry.

Children have received a 12p-a-week pocket money increase this year compared to the same period last year.

Youngsters aged seven to 18 received £9.90 on average a week between January and April 2026, a 1.2% increase from the £9.78 they received in the same period last year.

But the increase is less than half the rate of the consumer price index rate of inflation in April, which was 2.8%, according to the Office for National Statistics.

This could show that parents are feeling the pinch from rising living costs.

GoHenry also found that children in the south east of England receive the highest weekly pocket money, at £12.88.

Meanwhile, children in the east of England receive the lowest average, at £8.57.

When looking at payments for chores, tidying bedrooms is the most common task to generate account top-ups, earning an average pocket money payment of £1.14.

Meanwhile, music practice is the highest-earning chore at an average pocket money payment of £1.84.

Holidays are the most popular savings goal for children’s pots, followed by birthdays and electronics, GoHenry said.

Grocery shops and supermarkets are the top place for children to spend money, followed by restaurants, clothing shops, transport and health and beauty shops, according to the data.

Louise Hill, founder of GoHenry said: “Despite the rising cost of living, kids are still setting money aside week after week, saving an average of £3.93 per week, and it’s become second nature for them.”

The analysis was based on a sample of more than 600,000 children saving with GoHenry aged between seven and 18, comparing January 1 2025 to April 15 2025 with January 1 2026 to April 15 2026.
