Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon visited Ludhiana today for the first time after assuming charge. During his visit, he said BJP will field Captain Amarinder Singh in the campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly election. After meeting the Union Home Minister in Delhi, Captain Amarinder Singh has made it clear that he is fully fit and will work wherever the party assigns him.Dhillon confirmed that Captain will be active in the Assembly election. He said Captain is a senior and experienced leader, and the party will benefit from his guidance during the poll.Dhillon further asserted that urban voters are with BJP, while a special strategy has been prepared for rural areas. He said the party has already started work in villages. “Punjab’s progress is impossible without farmers’ prosperity, and therefore farmers occupy a central place on BJP’s agenda,” he said, alleging that the Punjab Government is not implementing central schemes meant for farmers. When asked about a possible alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Dhillon clarified that the BJP will contest all 117 seats. He claimed the party’s support base in Punjab is steadily growing, pointing to strong performance in panchayat and municipal elections. He added that villagers are increasingly supporting BJP as party workers spread awareness about central schemes, and people now believe BJP can ensure Punjab’s development.Dhillon also mentioned his meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Delhi, where he raised farmers’ issues. “I am the son of a farmer, so I understand every problem faced by farmers,” he said. He said he has urged the minister to help Punjab farmers diversify beyond paddy and wheat and support them in growing other crops. He highlighted that farmers in BJP-ruled states are receiving full benefits of central schemes. For example, Haryana provides MSP on 24 crops, including vegetables. He criticised the Punjab Government for failing to act in this direction, promising that if the BJP forms the government in Punjab, new schemes will be prepared for farmers.Dhillon stressed that BJP has a strong cadre in Punjab, from grassroots workers to senior leaders. Asked about discontent among core BJP leaders over the prominence given to leaders who joined from other parties, he replied that all workers are united with the mission of winning the 2027 Assembly election. He insisted there is no resentment within the party, and everyone will fight the election together.
