Days after the satirical Gen Z movement Cockroach Janta Party held a protest in Delhi demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for irregularities in the NTA and CBSE, a senior BJP minister on Tuesday said Indian youth were rooted in their (family) parents and there was no concept of Gen Z here.
“The Gen Z concept in Western terms is understood as one where the youth are independent of their parents. In India, there is no such concept of Gen Z. Not even 2% of the youth would be covered by this definition. My mother could scold me till the day she was alive,” said the minister.
Another BJP source said youthful energies need to be positively focused. “It is wrong to paint the youth as anti-establishment. The youth is powering Indian startups, leading enterprises, driving change. They are a positive force and we will focus on this,” the source said.
