Amid reports of a renewed alliance talks with the BJP, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) maintained that though it was never opposed to a pact, no formal invitation has been received or meeting scheduled between the two parties so far.SAD spokesperson Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the party was galvanising workers on the ground and preparing to contest on all 117 Assembly segments. Speaking on The Tribune’s report that the BJP hasn’t closed its doors on a potential alliance with the Akali Dal, Cheema said, “Reacting to media reports without receiving any formal offer will not be appropriate. The possibility of an alliance can be discussed only through a formal channel.”‘Ayali an opportunist’Taking on rebel SAD Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali after he joined Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh-led Waris Punjab De, Dr Cheema said Ayali had violated directions of the Akal Takht. “Earlier, they claimed that SAD (Punar Surjeet) was formed as per the directions of the Akal Takht. So, hasn’t he violated the directions by joining another outfit?”Ayali boasts following Sikh values and political principles but he finally turned out to be an opportunist who was hopping from one party to another, he said.“Ayali claims that he has joined the Amritpal-led outfit as per the aspiration of the voters of his segment. However, his target is to win the Assembly poll under the garb of Panthic reform,” said Cheema.Meanwhile, Ayali was also part of the panel constituted by the five Sikh high priests to oversee the restructuring of the SAD.‘AAP failed on all fronts’Reacting to the statement of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and social media posts of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Cheema said former Delhi CM should be worried about the working of his party that had failed on all fronts, including law and order, drug menace and corruption. “Why is AAP worried about the alliance between SAD and BJP?” said Cheema.
