The Gurugram traffic police impounded a bike that had 93 pending challans. All of these challans were pending, totalling Rs 2,29,000 in fines. The traffic police team seized the bike during a check at the Sector 4/7 intersection on Thursday.A senior traffic police officer said that as part of the traffic police campaign, action is being taken under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 against vehicle owners who have failed to pay traffic challans pending for more than 90 days. The police are also creating awareness among motorists about their pending challans and encouraging timely payment.According to the police, Gurugram Traffic Police were checking vehicles on Thursday during a special challan enforcement drive. At the Sector 4/7 Chowk checkpoint, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Madan Pal, along with Constable Robin and other traffic personnel stopped a motorcycle for inspection. Upon verification, the motorcycle was found to have 93 pending challans issued under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.“Most of the challans related to riding without a helmet and violations of zebra crossing rules. The total outstanding penalty amount was found to be Rs 2,29,000. When the rider was asked to produce the vehicle-related documents, he failed to do so. Consequently, the bike was impounded and moving it to the designated impound parking facility,” said a senior traffic police officer. The spokesperson of Gurugram Traffic Police said that they appeal to all motorists to follow traffic rules, pay pending challans on time and ensure that their vehicles are fitted with HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) number plates. Vehicles without HSRP plates should not be driven, as these plates help police identify criminal, anti-social and suspicious elements and enable effective law enforcement action.
