Newly appointed Punjab BJP chief Kewal Dhillon will kickstart the party’s 2027 poll campaign by organising the first “Jan Sabha (public meeting)” in Abohar — the home constituency of outgoing state head Jattvibeil Jakhar. On the sidelines of a function to mark 12 years of the Narendra Modi government, Dhillon told reporters that the Jan Sabhas would begin from Saturday to connect with the masses and would be held across the state.Speaking at the party’s second celebratory press meet within a month, he said Punjab had received unprecedented financial support from the Centre during the 12 years of the Modi government. He urged the people of the state to look at the facts before believing the “misleading narrative propagated by certain political parties”.Earlier last month, the BJP celebrated the party’s victory in West Bengal with an essentially “Punjab next” slogan.Continuing in the same vein, Dhillon said he wanted to counter the Opposition parties’ allegations regarding the Centre’s “step-motherly” treatment of Punjab.Without taking names, he rebutted allegations of BJP having an “anti-Punjab syndrome”, Centre’s alleged interference in BBMB and Panjab University affairs and withholding of funds — all obvious retorts to CM Bhagwant Mann’s comments.Dhillon also addressed Congress’ accusations of both the AAP and the Centre depriving Punjab of Rs 450 crore in National Health Mission funds. “On the contrary, more than Rs 4.13 lakh crore had directly flowed to Punjab through tax devolution, grants-in-aid, GST compensation and central loans,” he said.
