CANADIANS have slammed former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for skipping their nation’s World Cup opener to watch Team USA with his girlfriend Katy Perry.
Trudeau, 54, and Perry, 41, were seen cozying up in a suite at SoFi Stadium as they watched the United States’ opening match against Paraguay on Friday.

The former Canadian prime minister watched from a luxury box as his pop star girlfriend performed the United States’ national anthem at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Los Angeles.
Perry wore a floor-length sparkling silver dress as she opened the star-studded performances, which also included Tyla, Anitta and more.
But Trudeau’s show of support for Perry did not sit well with Canadians.
“Seeing Justin Trudeau at the USA Paraguay game instead of the Canadian one just pissed me right off wtfffff,” an irate critic wrote on X.

A second questioned, “Trudeau decided to be at this game instead of the Canada game. He might be in love with Katy Perry.”
Another branded Trudeau a fraud, writing on X, “Justin Trudeau at the USA game with Katy Perry instead of the Canada game earlier today, holy fraud.”
Meanwhile, a fourth called Trudeau the “most hated man in Canada.”
“The most hated man in Canada, Justin Trudeau, at the USA soccer game with his space cadet girlfriend. Just the worst. Ever.”
The power couple watched as Team USA crushed Paraguay, 4-1, in its World Cup opener.
Perry and Trudeau sparked dating rumors in late July 2025 when they were spotted on a dinner date in Montreal.
The pop star and politician officially confirmed their relationship last December and have seemingly been inseparable since.
Speaking at the premiere of her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris on Monday, the singer called Trudeau “the love of my life.”
“I would say now at the end of 91 shows, I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,” Perry said.
“I am very in love.

Perry secretly split from her fiancé Orlando Bloom at the beginning of 2025, although they didn’t formally announce it until July, weeks before she was spotted on a date with Trudeau.
At the time, Trudeau was months removed from his role as Canada’s prime minister after he stepped down from his post in March 2025 amid mounting pressure from his own caucus.
In the years leading up to his resignation, Trudeau, who assumed power in 2015, saw his popularity plummet as Canada faces housing and economic crises.
Since then, Trudeau has been enjoying his post-political life and focusing on his relationship with Perry.
