EVERY year, the official birthday of the reigning monarch is celebrated at an event called Trooping the Colour.

It is packed with pomp and ceremony, with one of the highlights an impressive flypast involving a range of RAF aircraft.

What time is the Trooping the Colour flypast today?

The Trooping the Colour flypast will take place above Buckingham Palace after flying down the length of The Mall.

It will start at approximately 1pm and is set to last for six minutes, concluding at 1:06pm with the arrival of the iconic Red Arrows.

A number of different military aircraft take part in the event, including Chinook helicopters, Typhoons and Lightning fighter jets.

The specifics of the flypast are subject to change, the MOD explains, based on “weather, aircraft serviceability, and operational commitments.”

What is the Trooping the Colour flypast route?

The aircraft will take off from various bases around the UK and will join forces in the North Sea, before approaching London from the east coast.

The Red Arrows will depart from RAF Waddington at 12.27pm, and pass over locations such as Lowestoft at around 12.48pm, and Colchester at 12.58pm.

They will be the last of 10 waves of aircraft to arrive in the capital.

The MOD explained: “The aircraft will take off from Royal Air Force stations around the United Kingdom, joining holding patterns around the North Sea before coming together in formation for the flypast.

“The aircraft will fly directly down the length of The Mall over Buckingham Palace.”

If everything proceeds as planned, you can see the full route – and the specific path planned for the Red Arrows – in the two maps below, per the website Military Airshows:
