Emergency crews were scrambled to the scene of the collision – which left Ayoade, 49, clutching his neck – on Saturday afternoon.

Two women were rushed to hospital and taken to a major trauma centre as cops swooped on the scene at around 5pm.

An investigation into the crash at the Green Goose roundabout has since been launched, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Eyewitnesses described seeing the Renault smash “straight into the side” of Ayoade’s SUV amid the chaos.

One witness said: “The Renault came speeding along the road and hit a woman — she ended up on the other side of the roundabout.

“Then the Renault hit Richard Ayoade’s car. It smashed straight into the side of his vehicle and then managed to hit another woman.

“We heard one of the pedestrians who was hit screaming and crying.”

The London Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics had treated two women at the scene.

Neither of the victims suffered life-changing or life-threatening injuries following the crash, the Met said.

Married dad-of-two Ayoade could be seen pointing and speaking to officers in the aftermath of the crash.

He is also an accomplished writer and director, receiving high acclaim for the 2010 film, Submarine.

The TV comic is married to Lydia Fox, the daughter of James Fox – who appeared in several popular films in the 60s and 70s.

They share three children together and live in London.
