Rock icon Rod Stewart was forced to pause his concert in Utah on Friday night and take pulls of oxygen from a tank onstage, saying afterward that he nearly fainted.Subscribe to read this story ad-free Get unlimited access to ad-free articles and exclusive content.TMZ was the first to report the incident at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater in West Valley City, outside Salt Lake City.In video shared by the outlet, Stewart could be seen gripping surfaces for support while singing, before motioning to a crew member, who brings over an oxygen tank and places the mask over his nose and mouth.The crowd is heard applauding and cheering for Stewart as he inhales.“The show must go on,” Stewart said once he recovered.The reason for the oxygen break was not immediately clear, though many concertgoers posting about the moment online pointed to the venue’s elevation — West Valley City sits at 4,300 feet above sea level.The 81-year-old is currently touring the U.S. on his One Last Time tour. His next scheduled performance is July 31 at the Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York.TMZ also reported that Stewart had recently been sidelined by laryngitis, which led him to cancel a show in San Diego.Representatives for Stewart did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
