BEING a wedding guest can be expensive – but the best gifts don’t have to cost a lot.
Try creating these DIY presents instead . . .
CRAFTY PLAN: Make a unique piece of art without spending a fortune.
First, get a Rodalm photo frame from Ikea, £2. Use colourful string to tie several different types of knots — you can find YouTube tutorials if you need a little help.
Then glue your knots on to a piece of card or paper. Add a handwritten “congrats on tying the knot” message under your own knots and pop it in the frame.
You can personalise it even more by using string in the colours of the wedding, and Hobbycraft has a great range from £4.
GREEN GIFT: Upcycle a charity shop find, or an old plant pot you already have, with a fresh lick of paint.
Add a hardy spider or peace lily houseplant, around £4 at Asda, and a tag that says something like “looking forward to watching you grow together”.
RAISE A GLASS: Assemble a DIY gin kit with a £4 crate from The Works.
Add Aldi Specially Selected Rhubarb & Ginger Gin, £14.99, and a pack of Ridge Valley Tonic, £1.99.
Include a pair of Asda hi-ball glasses, 60p each, and use a marker to personalise the crate with their names and wedding date.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Compile a special homemade recipe book by asking friends and family for the couple’s favourite meals.
You can write the recipes on paper or use the free templates at Canva.com to type them and print out, before binding with ribbon.
HONEYMOON HAMPER: Build a bespoke honeymoon present by picking up a colourful storage basket for £2.49 at The Range and filling it with honeymoon essentials.
This could include suncream, insect repellent and even a disposable camera, plus check out Superdrug for travel-sized toiletries from as little as £2.
Add handwritten tags to each present, such as “for the flight” or “for the beach” to make it personal.
