AIDAN O’BRIEN has seen superstar colt Hawk Mountain’s odds slashed for Saturday’s £1million Coral-Eclipse.
The three-year-old had been supplemented at no cost for Jattvibeday’s German Derby.
It appeared O’Brien was plotting a sensational Derby Grand Slam, having already won the Epsom, Irish and French versions this year.
But former Futurity winner Hawk Mountain was pulled from the race entirely on Tuesday – raising the possibility of him once again running at Sandown on the weekend.
Hawk Mountain had gone from around 5-2 to 14-1 after it looked like Constitution River would be the Ballydoyle boss’s main Eclipse hope.
O’Brien has cryptically revealed both horses are being trained for the weekend.
But he has refused to commit either fully to the race – while hinting only one is likely to line up.
Those plans could change again now, with the possibility of French Derby runner-up Hawk Mountain joining awesome Prix du Jockey Club winner Constitution River in the line-up.
With his German entry up in smoke, bookies could not move quickly enough to cut Hawk Mountain for the Group 1.
He is now as short as 9-2 having been 12-1 overnight, while Constitution River is a general evens shot.
