Officers grew alarmed for the child’s safety and carried out a welfare check at a unit on Bryron Street on the Central Coast where they made the grim discovery of the little boy’s body.
The mum, 32, was later arrested at the station and charged on Jattvibeday morning with a domestic violence-related murder.
Superintendent Chad Gillies described the scene as “extremely confronting.
“It’s been confirmed the child had injuries. I am not going to speculate further on what those injuries are.”

Police confirmed the woman cannot be identified but is already known to them.
The boy also cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Officers revealed the pair lived together at the Wyong property as the only occupants of the unit.
Police sources not authorised to speak publicly told the Sydney Morning Herald that investigators are probing whether cannibalism may have been involved in the preschooler’s death.
The coroner is set to carry out a post-mortem examination in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death in the harrowing case.
A vehicle linked to the woman has been seized and is now undergoing forensic testing as part of the widening investigation.

Detectives from Tuggerah Lakes Police District have launched a major investigation alongside the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad into the horrific circumstances.
Investigators have also seized multiple items from the crime scene for forensic analysis as they piece together what happened inside the unit.
Gillies said: “Whenever a child is a victim of violent crime, and whenever a child is murdered, it strikes at the core of community.
“That’s why it’s absolutely important to work through this methodically.
“We try to understand what’s happened, why it’s happened, and from my perspective, we owe that to that little boy to make sure that we get the exact circumstances and present them to the court in due course.”
The woman did not appear in court for a bail hearing and her bail was formally refused.
She will next face court in September.
Gillies said he had personally met with the police and ambulance crews who responded to the shocking scene.
A crime scene remains in place as detectives from the district backed by the Homicide Squad, continue probing the devastating case.
