Two young aged persons lost their lives after being electrocuted. The victims had taken shelter under a tree to escape the scorching heat, unaware that a tragic accident was waiting for them.According to police and local sources, the accident took place near a canal close to Rauke Kalan village under the jurisdiction of Nihal Singh Wala police station. The two youths—identified as 27-year-old Amritpal Singh and 32-year-old Sukhpreet Singh, both residents of Rauke village and permanent and contractual employess in PSPCL—had gone near the Manuke canal to operate a local power feeder after it developed some technical snag.​To get relief from the intense heat, they sat under a tree. Unbeknownst to them, a high-voltage high-tension low lying power line passing over the tree had come into contact with its upper branches. The heavy current leaked into the entire tree, instantly electrocuting both of them. The impact was so severe that the tree itself was partially scorched, and both men died on the spot.The sudden deaths have left Rauke village in deep mourning. Adding to the tragedy, it was revealed that one of the young men had recently gotten married just a few days prior to the incident.Upon receiving the information, a police team led by Inspector Jatinder Singh reached the spot. The bodies were recovered and sent to the Civil Hospital in Moga for a post-mortem examination. Police officials stated that further legal proceedings are being carried out based on the statements of the grieving family members. Meanwhile, the village Sarpanch, Boota Singh, has urged the government to provide appropriate financial compensation to the victim’s families.
