A TEENAGER has died after he got into difficulties at a popular reservoir as cops have launched an investigation.

Emergency services were called to Dovestone reservoir, Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, at around 7pm on July 10 but the 18-year-old boy was found unresponsive in the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cops say a cordon has been put in place and their enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Steven Horton, from the Greater Manchester Police, said: “We have tragically recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from the water and are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.

“Our thoughts remain with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

“I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public of the dangers of open water.

“We strongly encourage people to stay safe and refrain from entering large bodies of water including reservoirs, rivers, canals, or ponds.

“Your safety is our priority. Please look after yourselves and enjoy the weather safely.”

Several police cars, fire engines, ambulances and an air ambulance were all called to the scene, according to witnesses at the beauty spot.

The tragedy comes some 24 hours after a 49-year-old man died after he got into difficulties at Sykes reservoir at Alexandra Park in Stockport on Thursday night.

As well, another search operation was carried out at Chorlton Water Park tonight, following reports that a number of people were “struggling” in the water.

Firefighters and two specialist water rescue teams were called out and a “full sweep” of the lake was done.

Following a 40-minute search it was discovered all the people had left the water before the emergency services had arrived.
