Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday attacked the Opposition over the sacrilege law and accused the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of adopting a double standard on the issue.Mann said the Akali Dal, which is opposing the legislation today, should explain why it failed to enact such a law despite being in power with its chief minister on five occasions.Targeting the Congress, the BJP and the SAD, the Chief Minister alleged that if any of the three parties returned to power, they would discontinue the welfare schemes and public benefits being provided to the people of Punjab.Taking a swipe at Opposition leaders staking claim to the Chief Minister’s post, Mann said they should first prove their strength by winning at least 60 Assembly seats.”Where will they get so many seats from?” he remarked.Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Punjab, Mann quipped that although Rahul Gandhi intended to bring all Punjab Congress leaders together on one bus, they would end up fighting before the journey was over. The Chief Minister also announced a series of development initiatives for Mukerian. He appealed to residents to provide suitable land for the construction of a government college, assuring that the government would establish a state-of-the-art government college equipped with modern facilities. He further announced that the government hospitals at Hajipur and Mukerian would be upgraded with advanced medical infrastructure to improve healthcare services in the region.
