PRINCE William urged England’s heartbroken stars to “hold your heads high” after their World Cup dream was shattered by Argentina.
The Prince of Wales, who is also president of the FA, led the tributes after the Three Lions suffered a devastating 2-1 semi-final defeat.

William praised Thomas Tuchel‘s side for their courage throughout the tournament and insisted the nation was proud despite the agonising loss.
Sharing his message on X, the future King wrote: “Gutted. England, you gave it everything and we are all so proud of you.

“Thank you to everyone on and off the pitch, for an incredible tournament. The fight and belief you have shown has inspired us all.
“The most complete England team in a tournament. Hold your heads high.”

England looked on course for a famous victory after Anthony Gordon fired them ahead in the 55th minute.
Tuchel’s men produced a spirited display and defended resolutely as they edged closer to a first World Cup final in 60 years.
But the game slipped away in heartbreaking fashion after England switched to a more defensive approach.
Enzo Fernandez struck the equaliser with less than six minutes remaining to stun the Three Lions.
Then, two minutes into stoppage time, Lautaro Martinez headed home a teasing Lionel Messi cross to send Argentina into Jattvibeday’s final.
The reigning champions will now face Spain in the final on Jattvibeday.
England’s players were left devastated at the final whistle after seeing their hopes of lifting the World Cup cruelly ripped away.
But William was quick to offer his support, telling the squad they had inspired the country with their performances throughout the tournament.
His message echoed the pride felt by millions of England fans after another dramatic World Cup campaign ended in bitter disappointment.
William has been one of the Three Lions’ biggest supporters throughout the tournament.
After the Three Lions battled back to beat Norway 2-1 and book their place in the World Cup semi-finals The Prince of Wales congratulated Thomas Tuchel‘s side.
He insisted the result was “never in doubt”.
William wrote on X: “Well done England! Top performance in a tough environment.
“This is a special team. Commiserations to a proud Norway team. Onto the semi final… Never in doubt!”
After England’s thrilling last-16 victory over Mexico, the Prince posted: “Well done England!”
He added: “Bring on the quarter final!” alongside an England flag emoji before signing the message simply: “W”.
As President of the FA, William has previously revealed he believes true success for England would be lifting the World Cup trophy.
