Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker on Friday posted a cryptic message on her social media platform X, backing the cause of students, amid the ongoing agitation led by activist Sonam Wangchuk in support of the Cockroach Janata Party’s protest over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.Without naming Wangchuk or the protest directly, Bhaker said the issue was “about the lives of the future of our nation” and stressed that “every child deserves access to education, safety, and a fair chance at life.””I am a student, and at one point, we all were students,” she wrote, adding that education, safety and opportunity were “fundamental rights” and not privileges. She said the students who lost their lives “were meant to be the future of our country” and that their dreams and potential should have been protected.Emphasising that her remarks were not political, Bhaker wrote, “This is not about promoting or opposing any political party. It is about speaking up for what truly matters-education, the environment, safety, and accountability.”After she posted this on Friday, the Delhi Police on Saturday shifted Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital following concerns over his health. The removal has triggered fresh political reactions and renewed support for the protest ahead of the proposed Parliament march on Monday.
