A MAN has been left fighting for his life after a reportedly “shocking and brutal” stabbing in a residential street.

The victim, 37, was saved from further injury by brave passersby who chased the knifeman away before police arrived.

He was reportedly stabbed a number of times ajust after 7.30pm on Saturday on Weir Road, near Clapham Park in Balham – a residential suburb in southwest London.

Police raced to the scene and found the man with stab wounds before paramedics arrived and rushed the victim to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers are understood to be seeking a male suspect who was chased away by members of the public.
