MARKS and Spencer has confirmed the opening date of a new 22,000 sq ft supermarket in an English seaside town.
Plans for the new food store were welcomed by the council, who called the scheme a “win-win”.

A Devon town will welcome a new M&S store after plans were unanimously agreed upon.
Located in Paignton, the new posh nosh supermarket will be situated between South Devon College and the existing retail park.

Currently, the new food spot is set to arrive by autumn 2027.
The new store will feature a host of M&S favourites, including a hot chicken counter, selection of fine wines and the beloved bakery.

Shoppers will also benefit from a click and collect point located on the site.
A drive-up coffee shop/restaurant will also form part of the new supermarket, as well as a car park featuring 10 electric vehicle charging bays.
The town planning manager for the store, Philip Marsden, told the planning committee at Torbay Council that he is very “excited” about the new site.
He also added that the new retail spot will “reduce traffic” in the area, as “many local residents who want to shop with us have to travel to the Willows at Torquay”.
In another win for the town, the new supermarket is set to create up to 70 full- and part-time jobs for locals.
Developers will also pay a Community Infrastructure Levy of £260,000 which will fund community projects.
Councillor Ras Virdee said: “It’s a win-win situation, not just for the immediate area but also for the local economy.”
Councillor Adam Billings agreed that the new store and coffee spot was an unrefusable scheme, and chairman Martin Brook added: “I am really pleased that we can get this over the line.”
The Percy Pig maker has seen a host of new openings recently with M&S Food branches opening in Hatfield, Luton, Farnham, Oxfordshire and Surrey – the biggest standalone food store in the UK.
Two new full-line stores have also opened their doors in Bath and Bristol in the past year.
