Opposition INDIA bloc parties on Tuesday staged separate protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak while expressing solidarity with agitating students across the country.While SP chief Akhilesh Yadav joined the sit-in by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut and CPM MP John Brittas participated in the CJP-led agitation at Jantar Mantar. Later, Pawar’s daughter and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule was also seen at Rahul’s protest site.The divisions within the Opposition camp were evident, with AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Atishi questioning Rahul’s decision to hold a parallel protest.AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh went so far as to allege that the government had facilitated Rahul’s protest outside the PM’s residence to weaken the CJP agitation.Atishi said the same Delhi Police that did not allow CJP protesters to move even 100 metres towards Parliament had permitted Rahul to enter one of Delhi’s highest-security zones and protest near the PM’s residence.“Sonam Wangchuk and the CJP protested for a month at Jantar Mantar and the Prime Minister refused to talk to them. Rahul Gandhi was allowed to protest and, within an hour, the Modi government initiated a dialogue. What kind of collaboration is this?” she asked.Sources said Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray was also expected to join the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar and was travelling from Mumbai.Earlier, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the Delhi Police Commissioner demanding that all FIRs registered against protesters be made public.As news spread that Rahul was holding a separate dharna in Delhi, several protesters at the Jantar Mantar site reportedly asked: “Why could he not have joined us?”The Congress has not officially backed the CJP agitation and has instead organised its own protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.It was only on July 17, following Sonia Gandhi’s intervention, that the Congress deputed Pawan Khera to briefly meet Wangchuk, who is on a fast.Sonia reportedly reminded party leaders that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had travelled to Ladakh in 1958 to meet Wangchuk’s father, Sonam Namgyal, who was then on a hunger strike demanding tribal status for parts of Ladakh.As Opposition parties appeared divided, the BJP seized on the differences.“Kejriwal’s loudspeaker is upset that Rahul’s protest is an attempt to weaken their proxy’s protest. So AAP admits that CJP is not an apolitical student movement; it has sponsored it. Since Kejriwal has no credibility, he is pushing students into harm’s way to fulfil his political agenda,” BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya said.”The conduct displayed today by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is entirely unbecoming and condemnable. We have consistently maintained that Rahul Gandhi is emerging as a symbol of anarchy. Certain parliamentary offices do not belong to any single party. The Prime Minister is not merely the leader of one party, but the elected representative of 1.4 billion citizens,” Nabin said.
