THE UK’s inflation rate has dropped slightly to 2.6%, official figures show.
It’s a temporary boost for new Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his Chancellor John Healey, who will be hoping to keep costs down for households as he comes into power.
Inflation had been at 2.8% in the 12 months to May, so the latest figures represent a small drop.
The decrease was due to falling fuel prices, particularly diesel, as well as lower food costs.

Chocolate, margarine and beef all saw falling prices, while clothing prices also fell with the start of summer sales.
Plus, the cost of raw materials dipped for the first time since January, mainly due to the lower price of crude oil.
However, experts have warned we could see rising inflation again later in the year.
That’s because tensions have flared again in the Middle East, causing oil prices to rise once again this month.
That could in turn push up fuel and energy prices once more.
