THIS month’s Baja Espana-Aragon motorcycle rally has been postponed due to the threat of extreme wildfires.
The prolonged heatwaves across Europe have sparked concerns wildfires could ignite in the region.

Spain is one of the countries that has already been heavily affected by the fires with more of them sparking in other areas of the country on Wednesday.
According to the Associated Press, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez visited the city of Guadalajara, which is around 62 miles north of Madrid, after a huge wildfire broke out in the region.

This wildfire is said to have burned over 79,000 acres of land. A similar fire would represent a terrible risk for the Baja Espana-Aragon motorcycle rally.
A statement from the FIM (Federation International Motorcycle) confirmed the postponement.

It reads: “The Government of Aragon has confirmed that the Baja España-Aragón 2026, originally scheduled to take place from 24–26 July, has been postponed due to the extreme risk of wildfires across the region.
“The decision follows recommendations from the relevant authorities and was agreed during a meeting involving representatives of the Government of Aragon, the City of Teruel, emergency services, forestry officials and the event organiser, Esedos Events & Productions S.L.
“The postponement comes in response to forecasts of red alert conditions and an extreme risk of forest fires throughout the province of Teruel and the wider Aragon region.

“Current conditions include exceptionally high temperatures, strong winds, very low humidity and prolonged dry weather, significantly increasing the likelihood of wildfire outbreaks.
“In light of these circumstances, the Government of Aragon determined that postponing the event was the most responsible course of action in order to reduce the risks associated with the large numbers of competitors, officials, spectators and support vehicles that the Baja España-Aragón attracts.”
One of the primary reasons for the postponement is to ensure there is no extra pressure put on the emergency services given the outbreaks currently taking place in other areas of the country.
The Government of Aragon is expected to work closely with the event organiser to find an alternative date for the rally later this year.
