What we loved: The ultra-glossy finish, and that it’s hydrating and doesn’t feel sticky. It’s also affordable, with extensive choice of flavours.
What we didn’t love: The applicator is quite big, so more concentration is needed for accuracy.

The shade options seriously impressed me, with 13 to choose from (including four new additions).
Rimmel’s new mocktail-inspired flavours (Virgin Cosmo, Cherry Spritz, Espresso Mocktini and Apricello) all give the same high shine with a hint of colour.
It has an easy-to-clean plastic applicator
Virgin Cosmo is the one I’ve been reaching for the most, along with one of the OG shades, Cappuccino.
All of balms give an ultra glossy finish, without the stickiness that comes with traditional glosses.
It goes beyond just adding shine, using active skincare ingredients including hyaluronic acid and squalane to deeply moisturise the lips.
The buttery formula also contains peptides to treat the lips long-term.

In terms of hold, it’s not the most long-lasting on the lips, but I tend to constantly top up my lip balm throughout the day anyway, so this didn’t bother me.

The Verdict
Anyone who loves super shiny lips but prefers to use a balm than a gloss needs to try Rimmel’s Butter Me Up Balm.
The hydrating formula doesn’t leave a sticky residue, but it did need top-ups throughout the day.
There’s enough colour that I didn’t need to layer other products, but subtle enough that the glossy finish takes centre stage.
Rimmel launched its new summery shades at the perfect time, and I’ll be keeping one in my handbag everywhere I go.
