A MULTI-millionaire tailor claims leaky fridges at his posh apartment led to mould on his £1million French wine collection.

Tom Reimer, who once kitted out Luciano Pavarotti, is suing the firm that put them in for £550,000.

Wine lover Mr Reimer claims the value of his 1,500 bottle collection was ruined by faults on three wine chillers installed for £23,000 in a refurb of his £8million flat in Marylebone, London.

He says a 1cm gap in the doors led to temperatures widely varying from the 12-13C wine fridges need to be.

This is claimed to have led to mould on labels and some vintages “probably” becoming corked.

The tailor’s firm created a white silk tailcoat for Pavarotti in the 1990s.

He is suing International Food Services Equipment Ltd of Croydon, South London, which fitted the chillers in 2021.

He is seeking £500,000 for wine damage plus £50,000 costs at Central London county court.

His barrister Ololade Saromi said the faults led to a “loss of environmental control, excessive condenser operation, vibration, overheating, condensation and damage to the wine collection”.

But the firm’s barrister Matthew Winn-Smith said the doors were “part of a standard unit and the airgap complained of is a necessary element of sliding doors”.

He claimed the damage came from repeatedly turning off the coolers if neighbours complained about the noise.

The trial continues.
