“The closure remains in place to facilitate vehicle recovery and collision investigation.

“The southbound carriageway has since been reopened with lane 2 of (2) remaining closed for emergency services to work safely at the scene.

“Traffic caught within the closure is in the process of being released.

“Once recovery and collision investigation is complete, service providers will be able to access scene to assess any carriageway damage.”

A spokesperson for the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade said: “ A significant incident is currently ongoing on the A1 northbound, with multiple fire service crews, ambulance personnel, and police in attendance.

“The A1 northbound is fully closed between Chesterton and Wansford.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area, seek alternative routes, and expect significant delays while emergency services respond.”
