EDDIE HOWE is 3/1 to become the next permanent England manager after leaving Newcastle, according to bookmaker Betfair.
The 48-year-old is now a free agent after leaving St James’ Park with immediate effect, with Al-Ahli boss Matthias Jaissle expected to take over as the new Magpies manager.

The former Bournemouth boss had decided to remain at St James’ Park at the end of last season but has since had a change of heart and will depart with immediate effect.
It’s believed Howe told the club he wants to take a break from football, but that remains to be seen, with Betfair releasing odds on his most likely next role.
England are the favourites at 3/1, with Howe frequently linked to the job over the past few years.
Manchester United are next in the betting at 10/3, followed by Liverpool at 17/2 and Everton at 9/1 – the club Howe supported as a child.
Nottingham Forest are considered the best of the rest at 11/1, ahead of Premier League champions Arsenal at 16/1, the same price as a sensational return to Bournemouth.
Betfair spokesperson James Mackie said: “After Eddie Howe’s Newcastle exit was confirmed on Thursday, speculation has already started to grow over where the former Toon boss will end up next.
“The England national team job is the frontrunner at 3/1, alongside Manchester United to be Howe’s next role at 10/3, while the Liverpool job follows at 17/2.
“A return to the south coast with Bournemouth is priced at 16/1, while Howe is 25/1 to head north of the border to Celtic.
“Other potential destinations include a return to another of his former clubs, with Burnley priced at 50/1 and a shock stint back at Championship outfit Portsmouth, which Betfair punters can back at 100/1.”
