A man immolated himself inside the washroom of the Khanna (City-1) police station on Monday after filing a complaint against a self-styled godman and his associates.The deceased was identified as Gobind Singh, a resident of Block C, Ishwar Nagar, Ludhiana. The police said he had accused Charan Das, a self-styled baba from the Lalheri road area in Khanna, of cheating him of Rs 53,000. Das had allegedly promised to alleviate Gobind Singh’s poverty through supernatural remedies. When no relief came and Gobind demanded his money back, but the accused refused.Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Darpan Ahluwalia said Gobind Singh lodged a complaint naming Charan Das and his three associates, Makhan Singh, Jugraj Singh Jimmy and Inderpreet Singh Issu. “In his complaint, he categorically mentioned that if anything happened to him, all four accused would be responsible and a strict action should be taken against them,” the SSP said.Soon after filing the complaint, Gobind Singh went to the washroom in the police station and set himself ablaze using an inflammable substance. He was found charred about an hour later when someone entered the washroom.The police have arrested the four accused on charges of abetment to suicide. A magistrate visited the police station for investigation and the Judicial Magistrate (JMIC), Khanna, was informed. A team from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) also reached the spot
