WEST HAM midfield prospect Freddie Potts has been snapped up by Belgian champions Club Brugge for approximately £10million.
The 22-year-old’s move to the Champions League team ends a 16-year stint with the Hammers, where he was once coached by his dad every day at the club’s academy.

After joining the East London side age six, the Barking-born starlet broke into the Hammers’ first team during the 2021-22 Europa League campaign before making his Premier League bow last season.
Potts’ departure from Nuno Espirito Santo‘s recently-relegated side comes just weeks after he was bestowed with the captain’s armband in a pre-season friendly against Southend.

Despite describing the leadership honour as “something I’ve always dreamt of”, the defensive midfielder has now agreed a four-deal with Brugge.

Weeks after winning the Europa Conference League as a squad member in 2023, Potts’ talent began to truly blossom following a temporary move to Wycombe.
An outstanding season in the middle of the park saw Potts voted Player of the Year, before penning a season-long deal with Portsmouth and establishing himself as an emerging star in the Championship.
Hopes had been high that Pott’s pedigree in the second tier could help West Ham bounce straight back into the Premier League.
Instead, he has now become the fifth Englishman to call the Jan Breydel Stadium home, and will have the chance to finesse his football at one of Europe’s elite sides.

Older brother Daniel was crowned Young Hammer of the Year in 2012, while his father is a bona fide club legend.
Steve Potts pulled on the claret and blue shirt a staggering 506 times, captained the club for three years, and is a current first team coach.
The former skipper first joined the club’s coaching ranks in 2011, and Freddie’s burgeoning career was once very much a family business.
Father and son used to interact other every day on the training ground at one stage, and coach Steve even admitted that he used to be “a bit harsh on Freddie”.
