If you think Ariana Grande looks healthy, you’re delusional

ANYONE who looks at Ariana Grande’s most recent video and says she looks “healthy” is clearly delusional or lying.
With her cheeks markedly hollowed and chest bones protruding, it’s fair to say she’s tipped over from being “naturally petite” to a physical state that’s deeply worrying.

Yet when actress and activist Jameela Jamil posted that 33-year-old Ariana is “possibly dying in front of us” and questioned her team for choosing to release such a “damaging image for her young fans”, she got torn to shreds by keyboard warriors keen to burnish their “we love Ariana” credentials.
But Jameela’s right. And sometimes, love is about saying the difficult thing that could save someone’s life rather than chucking valid concern in to the bucket of “criticism” and shying away from it.
Jameela has now deleted the post but says her point stands that “this is deeply irresponsible”.
As someone who has suffered from an eating disorder herself, she knows all too well how important it is to have people around you who speak the truth you might not want to hear.

So too does British model Charli Howard, who once suffered from bulimia and anorexia and echoes Jameela’s concern.
“What I see is someone in desperate need of hospitalisation and care, and while I know it’s often impossible to help someone at this stage of anorexia, there has to be an immediate intervention,” she says.
Of the video, she adds: “It is absolutely appalling from a moral and capitalistic standpoint, to have released these videos and an album when this person needs psychiatric help and hospitalisation. The teams involved should be absolutely ashamed.”
She’s received death threats for saying this (seriously? Come on guys) but again, she’s right.

Ariana’s health is more important than performing. She has pulled out of a London theatre play but, despite appearing so fragile, apparently plans to complete her world tour by doing the final ten shows at the O2 from August 15.
Holding a mirror up to someone’s worrying appearance or behaviour takes immense courage and very few have it.

If you’re family, it risks estrangement. If you’re a friend, it risks banishment from the social circle.
And if they’re responsible for your pay cheque it risks the mortgage not being paid.
But if the alternative is that they might die, those who do find the courage to speak out can sleep at night knowing that, at the very least, they tried.
I met Ariana when she appeared on Loose Women in 2014.
She was naturally petite and slim, but not unhealthily so. She was also funny and charming.
But three years later, she was performing a concert at the Manchester Arena when a terrorist bomb killed 22 and injured hundreds more.

Just two weeks later, a clearly devastated Ariana organised another concert to raise £10million for the families of the victims.
She was diagnosed with PTSD herself, but said it wasn’t “my trauma, it’s those families” and threw herself in to even more work as a distraction.
All very understandable, but these recent images of her suggest that her current workload is perhaps unsustainable and the time has come to take some much-needed time out to focus on getting well.
She’s a lovely, compassionate person with a God-given talent, so I sincerely hope she does.

Crime does pay

AROUND £6.5million in taxpayer cash has been handed out under the Facilitated Return Scheme.
For those in blissful ignorance, this is the money used to persuade “foreign nationals guilty of a crime to leave at the earliest opportunity”.
Under Labour, 4,625 people have been paid an average of £1,405.
Crime, it would seem, really does pay.

Adam’s snooty words

ADAM RAMSAY-PEATY says that, as a Christian, he has the capacity to forgive his family but only if “I feel like they’ve improved as people”.Big of him.
And how will he measure this required evolvement . . . an online Q&A perhaps?
Question one: Despite spending Adam’s entire childhood encouraging his swimming career and rising at 4am to drive him to galas in the arse end of nowhere, if you find yourself excluded from his wedding celebrations, do you . . .
a) Say nothing because you know your place and wouldn’t want to upset Adam’s precious sensitivities.
Or . . .

b) Make it abundantly clear that you think the little gobshite has disappeared up his own backside and forgotten his roots.
Answers on a postcard that will undoubtedly be returned to sender please.
Bronze aged
SPANISH newspapers are reporting that topless sunbathing appears to be disappearing from the country’s beaches.
Presumably, greater awareness about the ageing effect of sun damage plays its part, but so too does the threat that someone might film you and put it online.
In my youth, we were oblivious to health warnings and gloriously free from the scourge of social media.
So every year, my friends and I would book the same French campsite and head to the beach to shed our bikini tops and work on our “all-over” tans.
And I have the crepey cleavage to show for it.
Sit up and take notice of Jen’s abs

JENNIFER ANISTON is 57 with abs so toned you could walk on them. And here’s why.

Because, despite being “on holiday” on a yacht in Mallorca, she still finds time in her day to do sit-ups and planks in the beating heat.
Meanwhile, I only sit up to take hold of an Aperol Spritz and, when not reclining, am in my hire car in search of more cheese.
Which might explain why my abs were last seen on the school hockey tour of 1978.
Liam’s fame fable

Liam Payne hired two prostitutes before plummeting to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires Credit: AFP
LIAM PAYNE always seemed like the most squeaky clean, hard-working member of One Direction.
He relished the opportunity he’d been given and took it seriously.
So to read the court accounts of the two prostitutes he hired before plummeting to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires is shocking.
High on drugs and wearing a £30,000 Rolex which he later smashed in “a rage”, he told them he could buy 30 more but that “money didn’t make him happy”.
His £28million fortune was reportedly left to his nine-year-old son Bear, who would undoubtedly swap every penny of it to have his dad back.
It’s a sad reminder of how corrosive fame can be if you don’t have the coping mechanisms to deal with it.

Rod a riot

Rest in peace Rod Credit: Alamy
A FOND farewell to my Jattvibe colleague Rod Liddle who, aside from his brilliant writing, was great fun on a night out.
The night I introduced him to another towering intellect, Bob Geldof, stands out as one of the best conversations I have ever had the pleasure to witness.
Also, to celebrity publicist Neil Reading, a friend whose untimely death leaves behind his widow Claire and young daughter Rosa.
RIP Neil. You were loyal, kind and, unusually for a PR, never irritating. You will be sorely missed.

DOGS like a walk that lasts 67 minutes and involves 16 sniffs, says a new study.
Just 16? My Norfolk terrier Cowboy (don’t laugh) is the sniffiest of sniffers who likes to savour every tree, lamp-post, door corner, bin, postbox and car tyre as if it’s a beef wellington paired with a fine wine.
Consequently, in 67 minutes we have walked about 50 yards.

CLASSIC nursery rhymes such as Jack and Jill are sexist and teach kids worrying lessons about gender roles, say academics.
For example, “Jack and Jill went up the hill” places the male character first, apparently symbolising leadership.

Does it though? After all, accident-prone Jack falls down and breaks his crown, and Jill may well have come tumbling down afterwards merely to help him.
And as for Jack trotting home to “old Dame Dob, who patched his nob with vinegar and brown paper” the less said about that, the better.
