FRANK LAMPARD is set to smash Coventry City’s transfer record for the FOURTH time in just a month with a stunning £23.14 million move for Ghana World Cup hero Caleb Yirenkyi.
The Sky Blues boss has already ripped up the club’s spending record three times this summer after landing Loum Tchaouna for £20million, Aurele Amenda for £17.1million and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth for £22.1million.

Now Lampard is ready to go even bigger by sealing a £23m deal for Nordsjaelland midfielder Yirenkyi in one of the biggest transfers in Coventry’s history.
The 20-year-old’s stock rocketed during the World Cup after scoring the only goal as Ghana stunned Panama, with the winner brilliantly set up by Brandon Thomas-Asante.

In a twist of fate, Thomas-Asante will now become Yirenkyi’s team-mate at Coventry.
Yirenkyi also caught the eye in Ghana’s shock 0-0 draw with England in Boston, producing an outstanding display in midfield as the African nation frustrated one of the tournament favourites.

His performances alerted a host of Premier League clubs, with Brighton and Everton both strongly linked with a move.
But it is understood Lampard’s influence has proved decisive.
The former Chelsea and England midfielder is believed to have spoken to ex-Blues team-mate Michael Essien, who has been working closely with Yirenkyi during his development at Nordsjaelland.
Those conversations helped convince Lampard that Yirenkyi was the perfect addition to his rapidly evolving Coventry squad, with the midfielder now on the brink of completing a record-breaking switch to the newly promoted Premier League club.

If the deal is completed, it will underline Coventry’s remarkable ambition under Lampard, who has repeatedly shown he is prepared to shatter the club’s transfer record in pursuit of an excellent Premier League campaign.
Still only just 20 years, he has already shown that under the right development plan he will be a star with some back in Ghana calling him the next Michael Essien.
There were reports in Spain saying Real Madrid were looking at him earlier in the summer.
