A LIVERPOOL’S legend has questioned “why on earth Mo Salah left Liverpool to go there?” after his shock move to Trabzonspor.
Former Reds striker Dean Saunders went from the Premier League to Turkey himself, but was still left “stunned” by Salah’s decision.

The shock move comes barely a year after he won the Premier League trophy, Golden Boot and Player of the Season award in 2024-25.

Salah left Liverpool after a tumultuous campaign, marked by multiple spats with ex-coach Arne Slot over playing time and the club’s tactical identity.
However, even former Turkish Super Lig star Dean Saunders cannot fathom why Anfield’s Egyptian King chose Trazbonspor as his departure destination.

Saunders said: “I honestly thought he’s going to Saudi Arabia. Why didn’t he stay at Liverpool?”
Trazbonspor are typically viewed as Turkey’s fourth biggest team, behind the trinity of Istanbul giants Galatasary, Fernabahce and Besiktas.
Champions League winner Salah had already snubbed interest from Besiktas, and was eventually been won over by a lucrative offer from outside the Turkish capital.
The 34-year-old’s Trazbonspor contract is set to be worth a staggering £20million per season, and that figure could swell further with commercial incentives and shirt sale percentages.
