While the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was taking legal course of action for allegedly breaching the ‘telecast rights’ of Gurbani from the Golden Temple, the founder and managing director of GTC Network Dr Rabindra Narayan has issued a ‘humble clarification’ and urged not to disrupt the Gurbani relay on his channel.Starting Thursday morning, GTC Punjabi has begun beaming Gurbani’s live transmission from the Sikhs’ holiest Shrine in Amritsar at 03:15 am and has made an announcement in this regard.Dr Narayan said that the signal was being sourced through SGPC’s YouTube channel which was transmitted globally through GTC satellite and other digital platforms. He claimed that the SGPC was intimated about it before beaming the Gurbani telecast.“With folded hands, I humbly urge the SGPC not to interrupt it on GTC as it was done with an intention for wider reach of the Gurbani to devotees all over the globe. It would not be appropriate to discontinue it as it would bring great disappointment to vast audience of the GTC”, he said. When asked the SGPC’s move of serving legal notice to GTC Network, Dr Narayan said that as and when it would be received, an appropriate reply would be filed.“Whatever agreement or arrangements of Gurbani telecast was made with the PTC, it was done during my tenure only. I can clarify the SGPC on certain aspects and gaps that remained unanswered,” he said.He quoted that it was not only Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler, but the SGPC’s former general secretary and spokesperson Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka had stated on National television channel debate that the link on SGPC’s digital platform was open for anyone to share it and that no permission was sought for relaying it.“This morning, I noticed that around 973 times the Gurbani link was shared through SGPC’s digital platform. It meant that this was being done for long. We take it as a positive signal and did the same to which the SGPC has raised objections which was not fair,” he said.At present, the SGPC streams Gurbani through its YouTube channel, “SGPC Sri Amritsar”, daily and also provide extended coverage through Facebook, its official website and an Apple application. However, in the absence of its own satellite channel, it has continued to depend on infrastructure operated by the PTC Network, owned by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Punjabi satellite broadcasting, Dr Narayan, former MD of PTC Network has been associated with Gurbani telecasts since 1998. He parted ways with the PTC Network in August 2025 before launching the GTC Network.
