A youth was gunned down late on Friday night in the Swatantar Nagar locality on Tibba Road here, allegedly over an old enmity.The deceased has been identified as Harjinder Singh (24).He was present in the area when members of a rival group, who arrived in a car, surrounded him and opened indiscriminate fire.Some shots were also fired in the air to create panic in the area.The victim had gone to hand over his friend’s Activa when he was cornered and attacked.Harjinder Singh sustained five bullet injuries in different parts of the body and collapsed on the road, bleeding profusely.He was rushed to CMC Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.Doctors declared him brought dead. Eyewitnesses said that the sound of continuous gunfire sent residents scurrying for safety as fear gripped the area.After the attack, the assailants fled from the spot with their weapons. After receiving the information, senior police officers and the Station House Officer of Tibba police station reached the spot.Empty cartridges were also recovered from the spot, and CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being examined. A police official said that two main accused were identified based on statements given by the victim’s family members.A case has also been registered and raids are being conducted to arrest the culprits. .
