Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain has ordered a probe into the 50-foot road cave-in at Kitchlu Nagar and directed the municipal corporation (MC) to identify the private cable company responsible for digging in the area. An FIR will be registered against those found guilty. The MC will also conduct a drone survey of the city’s decades-old sewerage network to identify vulnerable stretches.The incident occurred on August 7 when a large portion of the road suddenly caved in, leaving a crater on the busy stretch. The road was barricaded and MC teams began restoration work. No casualties were reported.The DC, along with Mayor Inderjit Kaur, visited the site and reviewed the repair work. Officials said it would take about 10 more days to restore the damaged stretch. The DC directed the MC Commissioner to submit a report identifying the agencies involved in digging.MC Commissioner Ojasvi Alankar said officials were working round the clock to identify the cable company and were in touch with higher authorities to revive the trenchless sewerage rehabilitation project. “We are going to conduct a drone survey of the old drainage system across the city,” he said.As per an office order, the Building and Roads (B&R) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) wings will work in three shifts until the road is made safe. Adequate manpower and machinery have been deployed, with senior engineers monitoring the work.The DC also directed the MC Commissioner to prepare a fresh proposal for the Rs 82-crore trenchless sewerage rehabilitation project, earlier cancelled following a controversy. Another Rs 72-crore proposal for the Panj Peer-PAU road stretch had also faced controversy over tendering.
