A 32-year-old Toronto man has been arrested nearly seven months after his Indian-origin partner, Himanshi Khurana, was found murdered in the Canadian city, Toronto Police said in a statement.Abdul Ghafoori was located and arrested on August 7, following efforts by members of the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad and Homicide and Missing Persons Unit, who liaised with national and international policing partners to facilitate his return to Canada.Ghafoori has been charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on August 8.According to Toronto Police, officers began investigating a missing woman on December 20, 2025. At around 6:30 am, they located the missing woman deceased inside a residence, following which her death was classified as a homicide.The victim was identified as 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana of Toronto. Police said the victim and suspect were known to each other and released an image of Khurana.Khurana’s death was Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2025.Police said they received information about a woman missing from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area at around 10:41 pm on December 19 and launched a search. Her body was found inside a house in the same area at around 6:30 am the following day.As the investigation progressed, police found that Ghafoori and Khurana were in an “intimate partner relationship”. A countrywide warrant was subsequently issued for Ghafoori’s arrest, and police released his photograph while appealing to the public for information about him.The Consulate General of India in Toronto had expressed shock over Khurana’s death and said it was providing all possible assistance to her family.“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. We extend our deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief,” it had said in a post on X.“The Consulate has been in close touch with the matter over the past few days, and all possible assistance is being extended to the family in close coordination with local authorities,” it said.
