JOE GALLAGHER revealed his liver cancer has returned just a few days after taking Frazer Clarke’s corner.

The blockbuster British boxing trainer is currently undergoing chemotherapy after it was revealed the horrible disease had returned at the beginning of the year.

Gallagher, 57, was diagnosed with stage four bowel and liver cancer back in November 2024 before fighting back against the disease.

After beating it, he even travelled to Bangkok in December to pick up an award at the WBC Convention.

But soon after a routine check-up revealed the heartbreaking news that the cancer had returned in his liver.

Gallagher told BoxingScene: “The cancer came back at the beginning of the year in my liver, the b*****d.

“It is in four different areas (of my liver), one of which sits on a vein that helps blood travel from my legs to head.”

He was initially told the cancer was “two out of 10 operable and six out of 10 manageable”.

After going in for a second opinion in the spring, he was told chemotherapy would give him a chance at surgery.

He said: “I was so angry I had to do chemo as I felt back to my best.

“Frazer (Clarke) had just fought (Justis) Huni and I was back. But then I had to go through this again.”

Gallagher had gone through SEVEN rounds of “chemo cocktails” by the end of July, including gruelling sessions lasting up to 48 hours.

But there has finally been some good news as doctors have now said they can operate next month.

Gallagher said: “They’ve said it’s now operable which will happen in early September, so fingers crossed.”

In the meantime, he has refused to let his situation keep him away from boxing.

He was still in Clarke’s corner on Saturday night as the heavyweight stopped Lamah Griggs in the second round in Leeds.

Gallagher said: “Listen, a bit of a kick in the b******s at the start of the year after going through what I went through last year, with bowel and liver cancer, and now for it to come back this year.

“I’ve not really said much about it, you just have to get on with it.

“You have no say in it, but the amount of chemo, and the amount of medication you have, you can see (the effect). It’s hit me a little bit more this time.”

In February 2025, Gallagher first revealed his cancer diagnosis publicly as he urged others not to delay getting checked out if something does not feel right.

And even with surgery looming in September, Gallagher has no intention of having any time off.

He said: “No slowing down.

“Get surgery out of the way, big end to the year, and 2027 is when we’re coming for all the titles.”
