The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi, filed a closure report in the Manisha death case of Bhiwani (Haryana), revealing that the 18-year-old woman had died by suicide by taking an insecticide. The Haryana Police had registered the first FIR in the case on August 12, 2025, for wrongful confinement under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Loharu Police Station, Bhiwani, on Manisha’s father Sanjay Kumar’s complaint.Later, her body was recovered the next day near the canal of village Singhani. The CBI filed the closure report before a special court in Panchkula on Friday (August 14), and the next date in the case is August 27. The remedy available to Manisha’s family is to file a protest petition against the closure report.Manisha, 18, left her home in the village of Dhani Laxman on August 11, 2025, at 8 am to teach children at Kids Play School in Singhani. She didn’t return. Her family members kept searching for her.Manisha’s father Sanjay Kumar told the police that they searched for her everywhere and even inquired from all their relatives but couldn’t find her. She was wearing a yellow salwar and kameez, and red-coloured shoes that day. The FIR in the case was finally got registered on the night of August 12, 2025.On August 13, 2025, her body was found in a field near the canal of the village of Singhani, bearing injuries on the neck. Consequently, Section 103(1) of BNS (for murder) was added to the case.Three post-mortems of Manisha’s body were conducted, as demanded by the family. First was in Bhiwani, followed by another in PGI Rohtak, and third in AIIMS, Delhi. Following protests, CM Nayab Singh Saini announced a CBI investigation into her death on August 20, 2025.She was finally cremated on August 21, 2025.On September 5, 2025, a Delhi unit of the CBI registered a regular case in the matter. What CBI foundSources informed that the CBI investigation found that Manisha was under depression. She wanted to get admission into a nursing course but failed. She was allegedly being taunted by her family members.Manisha was a 10+2 pass.It came on record that she herself bought an organophosphorus insecticide from Devender Khad Beej Bhandar. The CBI got the sale receipt of the same. The CBI relied on the findings of a multispecialty medical board, where doctors from multiple hospitals were members, to conclude that it was a suicide. Also, the investigation agency relied on a psychological assessment of Manisha’s state of mind, which confirmed that she was depressed.Even the Haryana Police had concluded that it was a suicide, which triggered widespread protests and village panchayats. The main opposition party, Congress, also raised the issue in last year’s Monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly.Earlier, father Sanjay Kumar had alleged a slow pace in the CBI investigation and threatened to go on a hunger strike in June. Later, he met the agency’s officials on July 26, who assured him that the probe would conclude soon.On the CBI’s closure report, Kumar dismissed the findings and told media persons that the fight for justice for Manisha would continue and they would decide about the legal recourse to be taken on August 27.
