POPULAR clothing brand River Island has announced it will be shutting down a store after years on the high street.

Shoppers will have a chance to pick up items at a discounted price ahead of the closure, however.

The River Island located at 15 The Moor, Sheffield, will be closing its doors for good on September 1, according to The Star.

The store has been a staple of Sheffield’s shopping scene in the city centre and will come as a disappointment for many.

A poster in the shop window has confirmed the closure and offered a sweet message to its customers.

The poster read: “The store is closing Tuesday 1st September. Thanks for shopping with us – we’ve had a blast! You can still shop the latest trends at RiverIsland.com and nearby locations. With love Ri.”

As well as this, there is a poster advertising that the store will be offering a 30 per cent discount on a whole host of items ahead of the closure.

When the store does finally close, customers will have to travel to Meadowhall for the closest River Island store.

This River Island was originally based in Fargate for a few years before relocating to the Moor in 2009.

This came as a result of the Aberdeen Standard Investment, which pumped more than £100m into the area after purchasing it in 2010.

This closure is just one of many, as the retailer has announced that other stores will be closing across the UK.

That includes a branch on Oxford Street in Swansea which will be shutting for good on Saturday, September 12.

Last year, the fashion retailer announced a major restructuring strategy that involved closing 33 stores and asking for rent reductions across 71 more.
