FROM shampoo to toothpaste, the cost of everyday toiletries we use can quickly stack up.

But with a few easy steps you can trim down on spending.

POUCH IT: If you invest in a few dispensers for handwash, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, you can top up with pouch refills typically cheaper than bottled counterparts.

For example, a 400ml bottle of L’Oreal Elvive extraordinary oil shampoo costs £7.50 from Amazon, whereas you can bag the refill 500ml pouch for £5.

The supermarket offers free period products in all customer toilets so that women can take what they need, when they need.

You don’t need to buy anything or use a special code for access.

STOP DUPLICATING: Many of us are guilty of owning multiple half-used products that do the same job.

Consider making a commitment to use up all of one product before buying anything new that does the same or similar job, such as a face moisturiser.

USE UP: Make the items you buy go a little further.

You’ll often find that if cut open, an “empty” toothpaste or hand cream tube, you can find enough product for another couple of uses.

REUSABLE: You can save a chunk of cash by opting for more reusable products instead of shelling out on disposable items.

For example, reusable make-up pads can be thrown in the wash after use to be used again and again so you can save on buying endless packs of cotton wool.

Charity freedom4girls estimates that reusable period pants and menstrual cups can save a woman up to £5,000 over a lifetime.

Reusable razors are another item that can be worth a small up-front investment to save over the longer term.
