A 19-year-old third-year student of Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) at IIM, Dhaula Kuan, in Paonta Sahib died by suicide on Friday afternoon.He has been identified as Prabhat Shukla, a resident of Jabalpur. His body was found under suspicious circumstances in his room. Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.Paonta Sahib DSP Manvender Singh confirmed that the 19-year-old student had died by suicide by hanging himself in his room.According to police reports, the incident came to light when Prabhat’s father called the hostel warden to inform him that his son was not responding to his calls. Subsequently, the warden and institute staff checked the student’s room and found him unconscious. Observing the situation in the room, the police were immediately informed.The institute management rushed the student to the Civil Hospital in Paonta Sahib for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. Preliminary police investigations reveal that the student was allegedly battling depression. The police also recovered some medicines from the room which pointed towards that.The police found no suicide note after inspecting the victim’s room.Investigations revealed that the student had attempted suicide a few days ago by slitting a vein on his wrist but later sought medical aid claiming it was an accidental injury incurred while cutting an apple.This incident was not reported to the police.In a bid to delve deeper into the case, the student’s mobile phone and laptop were seized by the police.The police also questioned the student’s peers, hostel staff and the institute’s management.A pall of gloom has descended on the IIM-Dhaula Kuan campus following the sudden death of the student.
