Two days after he was arrested for attempting to scale the boundary wall of the District and Sessions Judge’s residence in Faridkot, a man allegedly took his own life inside the Central Modern Jail, Faridkot, on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Paramjit Singh alias Pamma (25), a resident of Dhoorkot village in Faridkot, who allegedly hanged himself inside the bathroom of his barrack.Following information from the jail administration, city police took custody of the body and launched an investigation. The post-mortem will be conducted at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital under the supervision of a judicial magistrate.According to police, Paramjit Singh was caught red-handed on August 20 while attempting to scale the boundary wall of the District and Sessions Judge’s residence, allegedly with the intention of committing theft inside the premises.He was apprehended on the spot before he could enter the house. Police subsequently registered a case against him under provisions relating to attempted theft, and after completing legal formalities, he was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody on August 21.He was lodged in Barrack No. 3 of Block No. 10 of the jail along with other undertrials.Jail authorities said Assistant Superintendent Prabhdyal Singh and warden Sarabjinder Singh were on patrol duty when warden Gurvinder Singh alerted them to a commotion in the barrack, informing them that the undertrial had allegedly hanged himself.On receiving the information, senior officials were immediately informed, and with the help of other inmates lodged in the same barrack, Paramjit Singh was quickly brought down from the noose.The jail’s medical officer administered CPR on the spot before he was rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, in a jail ambulance for further treatment. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.
